Internationally Recognised

A sanctuary protected
by international law

Savannes Bay and Scorpion Island sit within one of the Caribbean's most formally protected coastal environments — recognised at both national and international level. This is not a marketing claim. It is enshrined in law.

01

One of two RAMSAR sites in all of Saint Lucia

Savannes Bay Marine Reserve is one of only two wetlands in Saint Lucia recognised under the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands — a binding international treaty protecting ecosystems of irreplaceable ecological value.

02

A living ecosystem of mangroves, seagrass and coral reef

The bay encompasses an interconnected system of mangrove forest, seagrass beds, and coral reef that function as a marine nursery, carbon sink, and coastal storm shield. Seventeen fish species recorded within the mangrove wetland alone.

03

Protected in perpetuity — what that means for investors

The PSEPA and RAMSAR designations provide a guarantee that no competing development, industrial activity, or environmental degradation can legally occur within or adjacent to the bay. Your investment is surrounded by law — not just landscape.

04

Kayak tours formally recognised in the management plan

The PSEPA Management Plan specifically recognises guided kayak tours to Scorpion Island as an approved activity. SHER operates not in spite of this designation — but in full alignment with it.
